Week in Review!
Globetrot Scott has given us the BEST weeks in December! Thus far, we have learned about the following countries:
USA
France
Germany
Netherlands
Italy
Sweden
We'll be visiting China, Russia, and India and then we will wrap up with Australia, Japan, Uganda, Israel, and Ethiopia at our Holiday Market!

We learned that students in Italy write secret napkin notes to their grown-ups to celebrate the holidays.
"Dear Mom and Dad, I love you so much that my heart's filled with love from your love."

"Dear Mom and Dad, I love you more than infinity!"

We learned that in Italy, students celebrate with a WITCH!

In Sweden, kiddos sometimes run across a Tomten!
We also filled our stomachs with yummy, buttery buns sent to us from Globetrot Scott!

We found out that there is also a wonderful tradition called "Boxing Day!" It's like musical chairs but with a gift that has been wrapped over and over!
We played it in our classroom...
Everyone was VERY excited at first...

Then everyone showed their frustration for how many times that silly gift was wrapped :)

The anticipation...
The reveal!
We got our own copy of Frosty for the classroom.

We have been working hard on Measurement and Data in Math.
We finished our week with a fun day of telling the class, "I mustache you a question!" in order to graph our answers.

Week in Review!
We had so much fun at our Junie B. field trip at the Opera House!

I introduced our first graders to my traveling friend Globetrot Scott! He has been sending us packages from all over the world to teach us about traditions around the holidays.
He has visited France and sent us Yule Logs!
He visited Germany and sent us an advent calendar and ginger snaps!

We are excited to see where he goes this week :)

We are working hard on opinion writing. This week, we worked together to distinguish the difference between facts and opinions by using nonfiction texts.

We also dug further into our measuring skills by talking about centimeters. We played a fun game with dice and cubes to get us ready for adding lengths of measurement together. :)

Here's to another great week :)

Week in Review!
We celebrated that last month's Scholastic Orders got us enough points to get all of these new books for our classroom library! They include fiction, nonfiction, and a fun "I Spy" book. We are PUMPED!

I tracked our package along the break...it's due to get here December 2! Yay! Thank you to those of you who ordered :) Many of the kiddos were tearing (literally) through their orders for December.

Last week was all about getting our brains ready to show gratitude for what we have (and a little bit of silliness). :)

Some of us finished our main idea and detail turkeys and got them up on the wall in time for Thanksgiving!
Here are those Turkey opinion pieces I promised you all!
"I think they should not cook it because the turkey is really fast!"

"I think Mr. Moose should eat Turkey because it is Thanksgiving."

"I think they should eat him because it is Thanksgiving."

"I think she would not eat them because Turkey's family will be sad."

"I think they should not eat the turkey because they want him to be their friend!"

We completed Thanksgiving Fact Files. Your first grader wrote about what they eat, what they want to know, what they know, and what they are thankful for!

We got to practice our measuring "endpoint" to "endpoint" with..TURKEYS!

and the grand finale of the week? Making Pumpkin Pie in a BAG! I hope the recipes made it home safely for you to try it out at home!

Have a great week! :)
