Week in Review
Hi all!
What a whirlwind week last week with only 3 days! Your kiddos had the opportunity to learn about Martin Luther King Jr. in several ways. One way is with the video below from Kid President (If you are not already familiar with this kid on YouTube, you should definitely look him up! He is full of so much positivity)

We also discussed what Martin Luther King's message truly was with the "egg experiment." (Be sure to ask your kiddo about this one!)

In Math, we had a TON of new games to practice our fact fluency. One great game that is easy to replicate at home is Making 10 Go Fish!
Play regular Go Fish but ask for pairs of cards that make 10 rather than look for doubles.

In writing, we continued with Persuasive Writing. Be on the lookout for some fun writing pieces in our blue folders. The kids are dying for me to get these pieces back to them (you'll soon see why!)

Have a great week!

Week in Review
Your kiddos were working so hard this past week! We covered a lot of difficult skills but, as usual, they plowed through it!
In comprehension, we spent a lot of time reading about what life was like long ago in comparison to our lives now. This let our students practice using Venn Diagrams in order to compare and contrast information in texts.
They had a lot of fun learning that even their Fourth Grade Reading Buddies cite evidence from their texts!

In Writing, we have continued talking about the power of persuasion! We had a blast writing letters to people to try to persuade them of our opinion. One of the funniest was a letter to the main character of the story Hey Little Ant

Have a great week!

Week in Review
It was nice to finally get back into the swing of learning this past week!
This time of the year is always so special because we see kids really TAKE OFF in their reading! It is so exciting to watch their enthusiasm build as their reading becomes more fluent with each passing week.
In our whole class reading time, we focused on the skill of identifying cause and effect. We read some hilarious books like:
See the source image
and a version of The Gingerbread Man
See the source image

In writing, we learned about a new type of writing: Persuasive Writing.
We learned that people can actually have a JOB to play games, eat food, watch movies, and go on vacations just to tell people whether or not they should use them! The kids had so much fun exploring this type of writing this week. I can't wait to see what else they come up with!

We're excited to show you what we come up with next!
In math, we had fun discovering fractions as halves and fourths.

Have a great week!

Week in Review
We had a great first two days back! Your students came back ready to rock and roll. :)

This week, we focused on resolutions.
We read this story and talked about how it's okay to not be perfect! We all learn (and can relax) when we know that everyone makes mistakes.

After the story, each student selected one word they wanted to focus on as their goal for the year.
We took time to choose the resolution, explain why we chose it, and even explain what steps we will take to meet our goal!
The final step was to share our resolutions. We spent a long time talking about how our friends can help us meet our goals by being our supporters.

Another goal we had for our short week was to remind our bodies of what we do during our Daily Five time. We practiced Read to Self, Work on Writing (where your kids had so much fun writing about their Winter Break!), and Word Work. We're always working to build our stamina back up so that we can become better readers and writers.
Of course, they did a MARVELOUS job.

Have a fabulous week!
