Week in Review
We were SO glad to see some beautiful weather this week!

We had the opportunity to take our book boxes outside and read in the sun (or the shade!).

While we were out there, we got to read one of our MANY versions of Three Little Pigs. This week, we were focusing on comparing the adventures of characters in a text.

Here are some of the versions we read:
This week, we will be learning all about Dr. Seuss. Your kid better be ready for some silly rhymes and tongue twisters!

In writing, we learned a lot about the important features of Fictional Narratives. One of our biggest focuses was how important it is for author's to have solutions to the problems in the story.
Ask your kids what it was like when mean ol' Mrs. Carney stopped reading the story RIGHT when the problem was about to be solved!

In Language, we worked on a TOUGH skill. We worked on putting commas where they are supposed to go in a list.

We ended our week with a Jump Rope for Heart kickoff! Your child will get his/her packet on Monday.

Week in Review
During Writing, we have begun to discuss Fictional Narratives! We started out by comparing Realistic Fiction and Fantasy (Which is perfect now that we've begun studying Fairytales!)

We also focused on matching characters and settings so that stories make sense.

We did a gallery walk of different settings in the classroom to help us brainstorm character ideas.

And shared those ideas to the class!

In math, we talked about how to make a ten to help us add three numbers.

Last, but certainly not least, we had a BLAST with our Valentine fun!

we also completed Complimats for everyone in our class!

And wrote about what we think love is :) Your kiddos came up with great ideas!

Have a great week!

Week in Review
We learned all about pronouns this week!
We had a lot of practice with identifying pronouns, finding them in sentences, and writing sentences to include pronouns.

We also did a fun Stand Up, Hand Up, Pair Up with pictures of students in our class! The kids worked in pairs to read the sentence, "kick out the names," and replace them with pronouns.

In math, we kicked off our ten more/ten less review by building a massive hundreds chart. The key was that we weren't just starting at 1 and counting forward. Instead, we focused on the patterns of numbers and built our chart in columns rather than rows.

We also did some broken hundreds chart practice with our groups.

During Reading and Writing this week, we focused on famous African American Achievers! The kids were challenged to make connections between texts, pull out important information, and write about their amazing achievements.

We used Brainpop Jr. to learn about George Washington Carver

Another GREAT resource is PebbleGo. We learned about Frederick Douglass through their website.

We read about Ruby Bridges

and they were able to learn about Jackie Robinson with our substitute Ms. White on Friday!

Have a great week!
