Daily Assignments

  • Morning Message - Students will log into Google Classroom daily and
    answer a question.
  • Reading - Students will read independently for 20 minutes every day.
Students will also listen to a story and answer questions via a Google Form.
  • Math - Students will complete a digital activity each day. If you would like
an extension activity, Splash Math or Xtra Math are great resources.
An alternative to that would be practicing their math facts with flash cards.
  • Writing - Students will respond to a writing prompt.
They should make sure that all sentences make sense, start with a capital
letter, have the correct end mark, and that all sight words are spelled
correctly.
  • Sight Words - We will continue with our weekly sight words.
Students will complete the Sight Word Workout Powerpoint every day.
There will also be an activity for students to do to help learn their sight
words and practice spelling patterns.

Digital Learning!

Hi families! Below you will find a guide on the work that your first grader will be asked to complete over these next days of digital learning. I know that these are unexpected and stressful times. Please know that I will be available via e-mail and Zoom conferences to answer any questions that you may have (see details at the end of this post). We are all learning how to do this as we go. If you have feedback for me, please let me know.

You can access this same information in a different format here:

Build your sight words with anything you have at home (legos, blocks, sticks, etc).
Write your sight word in a list from the shortest word to the longest word.
Practice your sight words outside with chalk, rocks, grass, or anything you can find!
Write your sight words in sentences.

Write your words in alphabetical order.
Write each word in a question. Ask the questions to a family member.

Have a grown-up spread shaving cream on a kitchen counter or shower wall. Spell your words in the shaving cream with your finger.
Write each of your words, then highlight the vowels using a highlighter or marker.
Write each word twice. First, write the word as tiny as you can (so it can still be read). Then, write it in JUMBO letters!

Week in Review
The kids have had so much fun working to complete their biography research. The kids worked to pull out key details of their chosen person.
We took those details and wrote notes using bullet points.

This week we're turning our notes into books!

We also learned about Leap Years on Friday! This was the perfect next conversation after wrapping up our unit on Spinning Earth.

The kids learned why we have leap years and made their own time capsules to be opened in 2024!
