Week in Review
This week, we learned about fractions! We learned about important words like: equal, unequal, halves, fourths, quarters, numerator, and denominator.
The best way to understand fractions is to understand that fractions need equal parts/fair shares. Fair shares are what we think of when we need to split something fairly...like a pizza! We split up a whole pizza as a class into halves. Next, our table groups split their pizzas into halves, too!
Finally, everyone got to design their own pizza with fair shares/equal halves.
Throughout the week, we discussed and wrote about halves and fourths in a variety of ways.
By the end of the week, we were playing games!
In writing, we began our unit on how to conduct research using informational texts. To get started, we studied sharks as a class! We practiced finding and recording information and then turning those notes into actual paragraphs.
By the end of the week, your kiddo selected his/her animal to conduct research on. This animal SHOULD be available for your kiddo to see at the zoo, too! How exciting!!

Getting us ready for writing our informational pieces, we also studied finding the author's point and their reasons to support it. We learned that authors can't just make claims without supporting their thinking!
Your kiddos got to practice this skill with their table partners.
Here's to another fabulous week at Wellington!
