Week in Review
We finally said goodbye to our penguin unit...but don't worry, we're starting habitats this week! :)

We broke into groups to research our favorite penguins:
Emperors, Gentoo, King, Adelie, S. African, S. American, Macaroni, and Rockhopper.

We made life-size versions of our penguin...

and displayed them in the hallway for all of Wellington :)

Friday, we came to school dressed up as penguins. Check out this dude!

We did an experiment to see how important blubber is to penguins.
We made our own ocean in the Antarctic by adding ice. Because we like our evidence, we had to test out just how cold it was with our bare hands first.
Next, we got to put our hands inside a blubber glove. We stuck both hands in the water at the same time and saw how blubber makes a HUGE difference for penguins.

We perfected our research skills by practicing gathering information from text AND photographs. These first graders were practicing identifying information about Orcas from a photograph.

We also started DOUBLE DIGIT ADDITION for the first time EVER in first grade!!

We loved our 100s chart shuffle so much that I wrote a song to help us remember how to do double digit addition.

They crack up every time! (But hey - it works!)

Have a great week :)
