Week in Review
Your kiddos had a blast learning about money this past week! We practiced counting coins, comparing values, and creating equivalent values. I was so impressed by how much they already knew about counting money!

We also started work on our upcoming research project. Your first grader will be helping design a safe zoo that no animals can escape from! Part of their assignment when they attend the zoo this Wednesday is to observe what the zoo has put in place to keep all of the animals safe.

To get us started, we practiced researching sharks! The kids are going to use their new skills in using text features to research their own animal!

We practiced using text features to learn about habitats, too!

Glossaries are tough but your kiddos did beautifully.

Your kiddos also requested that I share this fun song with you to practice their language skill at home:

Have a great week!

Week in Review
I hope this week's post finds you refreshed and ready to tackle the last few weeks of school! We are nearing the finish line and I am so excited for your first graders to show you all of their progress as they make their way towards second grade.
Here's a look back at all your child was able to accomplish before our break!

This week was all about bringing together what we have learned about fairy tales throughout this unit. Your first grader was given a role in a specific fairy tale and worked with a group to design a setting, rehearse lines the way characters would say them, and design characters! They did such a great job that our principal even stopped by for our performances!

Week in Review
We have had so much fun learning about Fairy Tales with this unit!
We've been able to apply so many comprehension strategies - one of them being cause and effect. To help us get a better understanding of what that means, the kids were challenged to determine causes and effects for real life events in our classroom.

We've also been using these new strategies to help us design and write our own fictional narratives. We've spent a lot of time in the pre-writing phase, sharing our ideas and "reading" our pictures to our friends.
In math, we started exploring place value with double digit numbers up to 100.
On Friday, we had a spontaneous decision to learn more about the patterns of the seasons! The kids were all very curious about how we "know" when the first day of spring is each year, so we did a MysteryScience lesson on the topic.
To end our week, the kids had fun celebrating Arty Party Day!

Have a great week!
